Welcome to our first Meet the Dragonflies blog post! This week, we ask one of our team's captains, Karin Maddox, a few questions about paddling for the HKA Dragonflies... How long have you been paddling for the HKA Dragonflies, and why did you start? I have been paddling for 8 years. I was initially talked in to joining because the team didn't have enough women to make a mixed boat team! What is your role within the HKA community? I am currently a G2 teacher. I have also taught Kindergarten and PK1. What sorts of exercise do you like to do outside of dragon boating? Running and swimming are my two other favourites. | Karin with co-captain, Ben, at our post-Stanley Warm-Up Race celebrations... A Dragonfly tradition! |
What are the challenges you've faced whilst dragon boating?
Thankfully the challenges I've faced haven't been physical! I would say organising the team, sorting out training, placing people in the boat and collecting money from everyone have been the biggest challenges!

(Most of) the HKA Dragonflies at our home turf - Sai Kung waterfront | What do you enjoy most about paddling? I love the social nature of dragon boating. It gives me an opportunity to hang out with people that I work with but rarely see...and then there are the pier beers! What tips would you give to someone considering taking up dragon boating? Do it! Do it! and Do it! |
Stay tuned for the next Meet the Dragonflies post, coming soon!
